QC hosts International Pink Film Festival alongside Pride March

International Pink Film Festival
starts today December 9, 2014 Tuesday

In celebration of its 75th anniversary as a city, Quezon City hosts Asia’s largest LGBT film event, the QC International Pink Film Festival. Forty five films about lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders from fifteen countries including the Philippines will be featured in the country’s biggest outing of queer films. It will be held on December 9-16 at Trinoma Mall.

The QC Pink Festival opens with the world premiere of prizewinning documentary filmmaker Nick Deocampo’s “#pinQCity,” about Quezon City’s LGBT community caught in its daily struggle to survive. Award-winning films line up the eight-day film program led by the controversial Cannes Film Festival grand prize winner, “La Vie d’Adele” (Blue is the Warmest Color), the German gay film, “Freier Fall” and the American documentary, “Before We Know It.” Among the participating countries are Sweden, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam.

Local films include recently produced films like Joel Lamangan’s “Lihis,” Jose Altarejos’ “Unfriend,” Andrea Sigrid Bernardo’s “Ang Huling Cha Cha ni Anita,” and Alvin Yapan’s “Gaydar.” Program also includes short films and documentaries.

Addressing issues affecting the local queer community, a three-day forum will feature speakers from Sweden, USA and Cambodia. They will talk on LGBT rights, health and education together with local resource persons.

A Pride March will serve as highlight of the week-long celebration. Seen to be the largest gathering of Filipino LGBT community and its supporters, it will be staged at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Saturday, December 13. LGBT organizations, local barangay units, and school-based LGBT organizations nationwide are expected to join the Pride March. It will feature a float competition, night party, rainbow booths, fashion show, and the QC LGBT Rainbow awards, the first of its kind in the country. Awards will be given to exemplary personalities of Quezon City who helped advance the LGBT movement.

GREASE (Summer lovin' is back!)

GREASE - The Musical, Manila
Summer lovin' is back!

9 Works Theatrical and 9PO

Due to insistent public demand, and fresh from bagging the 2013 PHILSTAGE Gawad Buhay Awards for Outstanding Production of Existing Material for a Musicale , 9 Works Theatrical will be closing its season by bringing back on stage the “GREASE.” The Original High School Musical , which was voted as the No. 1 Greatest Musical in West End , will have more breath-taking performances that would take the show to a whole new level. So throw your mittens around your kittens and hand-jive the night away with the show that'll make you want to stand up and shout, 'A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop, A-wop-bam-boom!' “GREASE” continues to rock the house down in Manila from November 14 to December 7, 2014 at the RCBC Plaza, Makati and will be directed by seasoned actor and director, Robbie Guevara.
Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "T-Birds" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "Hopelessly Devoted To You," "Sandy," “We Go Together” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

From Broadway Critics
"A lively and funny musical-as well as the dancingest one in town. It's a winner...the songs are dandies [that portray] the early rockers with zip and charm. The sheer energy of Grease carries all before it." - New York Daily News
“Grease is STILL the word” - Daily Mail
“GREASE is irresistibly Hard to Beat” Daily Express
“The Feel-Good, Pick-Me-Up Musical” Sunday Express
“It’s Electrifying…Go, Go, Go!” Sky News
…and what the Critics say about the Manila Run:
“The energy of the cool Rydell High students inspired the audience to join the bopping and hand jiving, especially to the "dip di-dip di-dip doo-bop a doo-bee doo" of "We Go Together." - Manila Bulletin
“The re-staging of "Grease" in Manila helps prove why, for many people, high school was one of the best times of their lives. It's the kind of show that can make you believe that you can be who you are, and that "Grease" is definitely the word, a timeless story that no matter how old you are, you are part of them.” – VC, GMA News
“The Manila run of Grease is a must-watch for its energetic song numbers as well as great acting moments of the cast. This is a pleasant surprise considering that there were newbies who had the huge responsibility of bringing life to major moments of the musical.” - PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal)
“...truly captured the youthful effervescence of the 1950’s.”
- Vladimir Bunoan,

“High-voltage cast!” JR Isaac, Circuit Magazine
“Amazing Cast.” - MetrMagPH
“Electrifying!”Kate Alvarez,
GREASE Characters
Danny Zuko – The leader of the Burger Palace Boys/T-Birds; good-looking, strong and confident, with an air of easy-going charm.
Sandy Dumbrowski – New girl in town; sweet, wholesome, naive, cute, and innocent.
The Pink Ladies - the club-jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls' gang who hang around with the Burger Palace Boys.
Betty Rizzo – Leader of the Pink Ladies; tough, sarcastic and outspoken but vulnerable.
Frenchy – a dreamer; good-natured but not too smart, she is heavily made up, fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician.
Marty – the 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies; pretty and looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated.
Jan – Funny, loud, compulsive eater and awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys.
The T-Birds - A super-cool, DA-haired, hard-looking group of high school wheeler-dealers... or so they think.
Doody – the youngest of the guys; small, boyish and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. He also plays the guitar.
Kenickie – the second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough-looking, tattooed, surly and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humor.
Sonny LaTierri – a member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer.
Roger – the anything-for-a-laugh stocky type of boy; a clown who enjoys winding people up, he is full of mischief and is always dreaming up half-baked schemes and ideas .
Vince Fontaine – a typical 'teen audience' disc jockey; slick, egotistical and fast-talking. He is also a veteran 'Greaser.'
Cha-Cha, aka Charlene DiGregorio - the best dancer at St. Bernadette's; a loud mouth, she wins the dancing competition with Danny.
Eugene Florczyk – the class valedictorian; physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. He's a typical 'apple-polisher' - both smug and pompous, but gullible.
Johnny Casino – All-American, rock-star “greaser” student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence.
Miss Lynch – A no-nonsense, serious, loud, English teacher.
Patty Simcox – a typical cheerleader; attractive, athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton.
Teen Angel - good-looking, falsetto-voiced, Fabian lookalike; singer who would have caused girls to scream and riot back in 1958.
GREASE Credits
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey
"Grease" was written by Barry Gibb, "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "You're the One That I Want" were written by John Farrar, and "Sandy" was by Louis St. Louis and Scott Simon, by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.
