Due to insistent public demand, and fresh from bagging the 2013 PHILSTAGE Gawad Buhay Awards for Outstanding Production of Existing Material for a Musicale, 9 Works Theatrical will be closing its season by bringing back on stage the“GREASE.” The Original High School Musical , which was voted as the No. 1 Greatest Musical in West End , will have more breath-taking performances that would take the show to a whole new level. So throw your mittens around your kittens and hand-jive the night away with the show that'll make you want to stand up and shout, 'A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop, A-wop-bam-boom!' “GREASE” continues to rock the house down in Manila from November 14 to December 7, 2014 at the RCBC Plaza, Makati and will be directed by seasoned actor and director, Robbie Guevara.

Synopsis
Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "T-Birds" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "Hopelessly Devoted To You," "Sandy," “We Go Together” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world's most popular musicals.

From Broadway Critics
"A lively and funny musical-as well as the dancingest one in town. It's a winner...the songs are dandies [that portray] the early rockers with zip and charm. The sheer energy of Grease carries all before it." - New York Daily News
“Grease is STILL the word” - Daily Mail
“GREASE is irresistibly Hard to Beat” – Daily Express
“The Feel-Good, Pick-Me-Up Musical” – Sunday Express
“It’s Electrifying…Go, Go, Go!” – Sky News
…and what the Critics say about the Manila Run:
“The energy of the cool Rydell High students inspired the audience to join the bopping and hand jiving, especially to the "dip di-dip di-dip doo-bop a doo-bee doo" of "We Go Together." - Manila Bulletin
“The re-staging of "Grease" in Manila helps prove why, for many people, high school was one of the best times of their lives. It's the kind of show that can make you believe that you can be who you are, and that "Grease" is definitely the word, a timeless story that no matter how old you are, you are part of them.” – VC, GMA News
“The Manila run of Grease is a must-watch for its energetic song numbers as well as great acting moments of the cast. This is a pleasant surprise considering that there were newbies who had the huge responsibility of bringing life to major moments of the musical.” - PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal)
“...truly captured the youthful effervescence of the 1950’s.”
- Vladimir Bunoan, ABS-CBNnews.com

“High-voltage cast!” – JR Isaac, Circuit Magazine

“Amazing Cast.” - MetrMagPH

“Electrifying!” – Kate Alvarez, Spot.ph

GREASE Characters
Danny Zuko – The leader of the Burger Palace Boys/T-Birds; good-looking, strong and confident, with an air of easy-going charm.
Sandy Dumbrowski – New girl in town; sweet, wholesome, naive, cute, and innocent.
The Pink Ladies - the club-jacketed, gum-chewing, hip-swinging girls' gang who hang around with the Burger Palace Boys.
Betty Rizzo – Leader of the Pink Ladies; tough, sarcastic and outspoken but vulnerable.
Frenchy – a dreamer; good-natured but not too smart, she is heavily made up, fussy about her appearance, particularly her hair. She can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician.
Marty – the 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies; pretty and looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. She tries to act sophisticated.
Jan – Funny, loud, compulsive eater and awkward member of the Pink Ladies. Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with boys.

The T-Birds - A super-cool, DA-haired, hard-looking group of high school wheeler-dealers... or so they think.
Doody – the youngest of the guys; small, boyish and open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude towards the other guys. He also plays the guitar.
Kenickie – the second in command of the Burger Palace Boys; tough-looking, tattooed, surly and avoids any show of softness. He has an offbeat sense of humor.
Sonny LaTierri – a member of the Burger Palace Boys; funny Italian-American, he is a braggart and wheeler-dealer who thinks he's a real lady-killer.
Roger – the anything-for-a-laugh stocky type of boy; a clown who enjoys winding people up, he is full of mischief and is always dreaming up half-baked schemes and idea.
Vince Fontaine – a typical 'teen audience' disc jockey; slick, egotistical and fast-talking. He is also a veteran 'Greaser.'
Cha-Cha, aka Charlene DiGregorio - the best dancer at St. Bernadette's; a loud mouth, she wins the dancing competition with Danny.
Eugene Florczyk – the class valedictorian; physically awkward, with weak eyes and a high-pitched voice. He's a typical 'apple-polisher' - both smug and pompous, but gullible.
Johnny Casino – All-American, rock-star “greaser” student at Rydell High, whose real name is Clarence.
Miss Lynch – A no-nonsense, serious, loud, English teacher.
Patty Simcox – a typical cheerleader; attractive, athletic, sure-of-herself, but can be given to bursts of disconcerting enthusiasm. She's a bit of a pain and unpopular with the Pink Ladies, and can twirl a baton.
Teen Angel - good-looking, falsetto-voiced, Fabian lookalike; singer who would have caused girls to scream and riot back in 1958.

NOLI ME TANGERE
The Opera
"Touch Me Not"

Music by Felipe De Leon (National Artist)
Libretto by Guillermo Tolentino (National Artist)

A compelling novel about Love, Betrayal, Oppression, Vengeance, and Hope. An adoring love story set against a repulsive political backdrop of tyranny, torture and murder.

The musical presentation, an opera in three acts, follows the story of Juan Crisostomo Ibarra, who returns to the Philippines after pursuing scholarly studies in Europe. He plans to open up a school and marry Maria Clara, his betrothed. However, parish priest Padre Damaso, the archenemy of the Ibarras, is out to hinder Crisostomo’s plans, which creates “a dramatic storyline of forbidden love, betrayal and revenge.””Noli Me Tangere” (Touch Me Not) depicts the abuses suffered by the native Indios at the hands of Spanish tyrants. The opera paints us a clear picture of the so called “social cancer” that illustrates the rotten system of governance, the illicit ways of the church and the unfavorable trade of the privilege class.

" COCK " is back for a limited run!

"COCK" IS BACK FOR ONE WEEKEND ONLY!
John, M, W and F are back.

After making a splash during its Manila premiere last February, Red Turnip Theater is bringing back the Olivier Award-winning play "Cock" for a limited one weekend re-run this October. Mike Bartlett's comedy about love and sexual identity was a surprise smash, playing to packed houses and critical acclaim. It also marked the directorial debut of Rem Zamora who created a stir with his "innovative" (PEP.ph) and "creative" (Business World) staging; a bare stage with only his four actors and Bartlett's witty script.

The "year's fiercest quartet of actors" (Philippine Daily Inquirer) have returned to reprise their critically heralded performances. Topper Fabregas is John, Niccolo Manahan is M, Jenny Jamora is W, and Audie Gemora completes the cast as F.

COCK is a comedy… with bite. No props, scenery or furniture. Just actors, sharp dialogue and some clever staging. All essential. Absolutely Red Turnip.

SHREK THE MUSICAL opens SHREKtember 19!

SHREK THE MUSICAL opens SHREKtember 19!

Manila, Philippines -- This September is going to be SHREKtacular! Everyone’s favorite ogre comes to Manila in Shrek the Musical, a song-and dance-filled stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film. Shrek the Musical opens September 19 and runs throughOctober 12 at the Meralco Theatre.

Shrek The Musical - Poster
Shrek The Musical puts a twist on fairytales as we have come to know them. Instead of a knight riding a noble steed, the hero is Shrek, a swamp- dwelling ogre who befriends a wisecracking Donkey. And the Princess? She’s the slightly temperamental and neurotic Fiona. After Shrek rescues Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower, the two fall in love before she reveals there’s more to her than meets the eye. Other fairytale misfits join the madcap adventure in this colorful musical including a brave puppet named Pinocchio, a Gingerbread Man with an attitude and Three Blind Mice who channel their inner Dreamgirls.

This entertaining, family-friendly show features a terrific score including the hit song “ I’m A Believer!” The songs come from Jeanine Tesori, who wrote the music, and David Lindsay-Abaire, who wrote the book and lyrics.

Shrek the Musical also draws from a 1990 children’s book by famed New Yorker cartoonist William Steig. Like the first 2001 Shrek film, the musical stays true to Steig’s fractured fairytale vision where dragons are friendly, swamps are better than castles, and the true hero isn’t handsome or noble but a grouchy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside ogre who is more or less content with himself and his life in a swamp.

After Shrek the Musical premiered in 2008, as the most expensive show ever produced on Broadway, it played for more than a year and earned numerous Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations. It went on to become a hit musical in London’s West End and continues to tour the UK.

“ PINOCCHIO ” CHILDREN’S MUSICAL

“ PINOCCHIO ” CHILDREN’S MUSICAL OPENS ON AUGUST 16

In celebration of its 22 years of producing well-loved musicals for children of all ages, Repertory Philippines Theater for Young Audiences proudly announces the staging of PINOCCHIO - the story of that familiar wooden puppet whose nose grew  when he told a lie.

Originally written by Carlo Collodi  as a serial in 1881, Le avventure di Pinocchio (The Adventures of Pinocchio), it has been one of the most famous stories in children’s literature and one of the most adapted.  Perhaps the most popular adaptation was the one by Walt Disney.  This more current adaptation is by Jim Eiler with music by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy for the Prince Street Players, Ltd.

Set in Italy, this is the beloved tale of Pinocchio, a life-sized puppet created by the caring puppet maker, Geppetto. Knowing of his longing for a son, the Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life as a reward for Geppetto's remarkably generous spirit. The Blue Fairy promises Pinocchio that if he always obeys his father, someday he would become a real boy. But the best laid plans can sometimes go awry and Pinocchio's boyish longings lead him away from his father and on an adventure unlike any other. Hurtled from the Land of The Toys to the belly of a giant, Italian-speaking whale, Pinocchio learns that no love is greater than that of a parent for a child.

Ms. Joy Virata, artistic director of Repertory Philippines Theater  for  Young Audiences will direct PINOCCHIO. This marks the third time that  Repertory Philippines is staging the musical, the first two being in 1996 and 2004.

This new and fresh production of PINOCCHIO is going to be a real treat for the entire family with masks, music and merriment. It will be alive and bursting with energy. The children in the audience will be spellbound with its visually stunning and colorful set design and costumes, the lively choreography, and the witty songs and dialogue of Colodi’s comic characters.

For this production, the role of PINOCCHIO will be alternately performed by Albert Silos, Noel Comia, Daniel Drilon, Guido Gatmaytan, Sofie Wong and Andee Achacoso. Pinocchio’s character is the epitome of na├»ve innocence and is led into trouble time and time again because of it. He is a curious, impressionable, and a sincere young boy.

Miguel Faustmann, Oliver Usison and Nic Campos shall alternately play the role of GEPPETTO, a toy maker who is noticeably warm-hearted and caring.  He is constantly yearning for a son and wants nothing but the best for Pinocchio.

Arnel Carrion, James Stacey and Nic Campos will alternately play the role of ANTONIO, the carpenter friend of Geppetto and the story's narrator. He will interact with the audience throughout the show with his inviting, engaging, energetic charm.

Natalie Everett, Ring Antonio and Gold Soon will alternately essay the role of ANGELINA, Geppetto’s housekeeper who cares deeply for Geppetto’s well being and possesses a loving rapport with him.

Antonio Lane, George Schulze, and Jay Pangilinan  shall alternately tackle the role of CANDLEWICK, the young and rambunctious rule-breaker. With his bratty and mischievous attitude, he leads Pinocchio into trouble.

Steven Conde, Thea Gloria, Cara Barredo and Vien Alen King will play GINO, Candlewick’s equally naughty sidekick who will also help Pinocchio disobey his father.

Liesl Batucan, Christine Flores and Cara Barredo will alternately play the role of the BLUE FAIRY, an omniscient presence and god-motherly figure. She looks out for and guides Pinocchio. She is kind, gentle, and generous to those who are pure of heart.

Jef Flores, George Schulze and Onyl Torres will alternately play the role of SIGNORE VOLPONE, the ringleader of a sinister plot to exploit naive children. He operates as the "brains" of the operation and keeps Signore Gatto in his place. Portrayed as a fox, he is a dishonest thief with great cunning and craftiness.

Chino Veguillas, Steven Hotchkiss and Kendrick Ibasco will alternately bring to life the role of SIGNORE GATTO, the less intelligent sidekick of Signore Volpone. Portrayed as a cat, he is a dishonest thief and blindly follows his boss.

Onyl Torres, Raul Montesa and Bituin Escalante will alternately play the role of the COACHMAN.

PINOCCHIO is set to open on August 16, 2014 at the Onstage Theater, 2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas cor. Legazpi St., Makati City. The show runs until December 14, 2014.

A really brilliant musical for kids, PINOCCHIO promises to be a completely unique theatre experience --- a modern remix of the original story told with vim, verve, vibrancy with the overall message of the importance of good behavior !!!
